A city shaped by the post next door

Killeen sits beside Fort Hood, one of the Army's largest posts, and almost everything about how people search here follows from that. Census estimates put the city's 2024 population at 160,616, up 4.9% from the 2020 base of 153,157.

Census Bureau figures from the 2019-2023 American Community Survey show 60,328 employed residents, and that table covers civilians only: soldiers on active duty are not in it. So the employment figures describe the civilians who live and work in town (spouses, veterans, civilian staff and everyone else) and leave out a large part of the buying public. Among those civilian workers, the largest shares are in retail trade (12.9%), health care and social assistance (11.9%), accommodation and food services (9.7%), educational services (9.4%) and public administration (9.3%). Only 7.6% work from home. Median household income comes to $58,339.

Read together, those numbers describe a consumer town with a population always on the move:

  • Retail, restaurants and personal services (barbers, auto repair, phone repair, gyms) compete in the map pack, on phones, often in the evening.
  • Health care, from clinics to therapy and dental offices, serves military families and veterans, and benefits from a complete profile and clear insurance details.
  • Price matters at that income level. If you offer a military discount or fixed prices, put them on the page and in the profile as well as on the sign at the counter.

Searching for Killeen from somewhere else

We pulled page one for "killeen seo" on October 17, 2026. Google put an AI Overview at the top and showed no map pack. The People Also Ask box is the striking part: besides "What does an SEO consultant do?" and "Is SEO replaced by AI?", it asked what Killeen is famous for, what the crime rate is, which part of Killeen is safest and which Texas city has the worst crime.

Those are not SEO questions. They are the questions of people deciding where to live, and in Killeen many are likely families on their way in from another state. That matters for every local business, because a family that searches from far away gets no help from its location in the results. Apartment communities, real estate agents, movers, storage, childcare, schools, vets and pediatric practices should write pages that make sense to someone who has never seen the town: where you are relative to the post and the main roads, which neighborhoods you serve, what a newcomer needs to know.

Turnover cuts the other way too. Customers leave on new orders, so a business has to keep asking for reviews all the time, not once a year. A review from a family now stationed elsewhere still counts.

The nine organic results were a scattered set: a Yahoo local listings page for web services, two Killeen marketing agency pages, Expertise's list of advertising agencies, a Yelp list of web designers, a LinkedIn page for marketers in the area, a press release on a news site about a national agency, a contact page, and a page about SEO in Temple. Only a few were built specifically to answer a Killeen buyer.

Volumes in October 2026 were modest: "killeen web design", "web design killeen" and "web design killeen tx" about 20 US searches a month each, and "killeen seo", "seo killeen" and "seo killeen tx" about 10 each, a cluster of 90 with close variants sharing figures. Web design out-searches SEO two to one. With page one this thin, a Killeen business with one solid page about its Killeen work and a well-kept profile has a real opening.

Bell County and the towns around Killeen

Killeen is in Bell County, along US 190, which is also signed as I-14 through the area. Harker Heights adjoins it to the east, Copperas Cove lies to the west, and Belton (the county seat) and Temple are further east toward I-35. Texas A&M University-Central Texas is in Killeen too. Many service businesses here treat Killeen, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove as one market and add Temple and Belton when they can.

Killeen is a good distance from our other area pages. The closest are SEO in Georgetown, about 28 miles away, Round Rock at 38 and Cedar Park at 39, both on the Austin side, and Waco businesses about 46 miles northeast. You will find the rest of the region under Central Texas.

For the Business Profile, that spread suggests:

  1. A shop or office customers visit ranks strongest around its own address. Win your side of Killeen first.
  2. A service business that travels can leave its address off the profile and name up to 20 service areas, enough for Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Nolanville, Belton and Temple with room to spare.
  3. Pages for Harker Heights or Temple make sense only once you have work, photos and reviews from there to put on them.

Killeen questions

What is Killeen, Texas famous for?

Mostly for Fort Hood, the large Army post right next to the city, which shapes the whole local economy. Killeen is also home to Texas A&M University-Central Texas. For a business, the post means steady turnover as families arrive and leave on orders, and many customers who look the town up from another state before they ever drive in on US 190.

How can a Killeen business reach military families who are moving in?

Be easy to find before they arrive. Many families search from another state ahead of the move, so their location does nothing to surface you. Say plainly on your site and Business Profile where you are in relation to the post and the main roads, which parts of Killeen, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove you serve, and whether you offer a military discount. Ask happy and unhappy customers alike for reviews before they move away.

Is the $65 Basic plan enough for a Killeen business?

It can be a sensible start. Search volumes here are modest (in October 2026, about 20 US searches a month for each web design phrasing and about 10 for each SEO phrasing), and Basic covers 5 keywords with 5 guest posts, 5 Web 2.0s and the Business Profile, citation and review work. A business that also wants Temple and Harker Heights will usually need Silver at $125 for 10 keywords. Either plan is month to month.
