Houston SEO services from $65 a month, planned around the suburbs you serve
In October 2026, Houston searchers looked for web design more often than for an SEO company, and Google answered SEO searches with a map pack over a page split between agencies and ranking lists. Here is what that means for a Houston business, and where to start.

What Google put on page one for "houston seo company"
We pulled Google's live result for "houston seo company" on October 17, 2026. A map pack sat at the top. Under it were nine organic results: five agency websites and four directories or ranking lists, with The Manifest holding two of those spots and DesignRush a third. There were no social profiles, no forum threads, no job listings, no People Also Ask box and no AI Overview.
That is about as commercial as a Google page gets. Google is sure the person wants to hire someone, so it shows businesses and comparisons of businesses, and little else.
For a Houston company in any trade, the useful part is the split. Close to half of page one went to sites that list businesses rather than to the businesses themselves. Search your own service with "Houston" added and count the same way. Where lists hold several spots, part of the work is getting onto them with an accurate profile and real reviews, so a buyer who clicks the list finds you inside it. The other part is a page of your own that answers what a list cannot: how you price or quote, which parts of the city you cover, and photos of jobs you have actually done.
Houston shops for a website first
The October 2026 keyword figures hold a pattern that Dallas and Austin do not share. "houston web design" and its two close variants sit in one bucket of about 2,400 searches a month. "houston seo company" and "seo company houston" share about 1,300. The four forms of "houston seo" and "seo services houston" share about 590, and "houston seo agency" has about 320. In Dallas and Austin the SEO phrasing leads; in Houston, web design does. The 13,320 cluster total in the panel counts each shared bucket once per phrasing, so treat it as a ceiling rather than a count of people.
Our reading is that plenty of Houston owners start with the site itself. That instinct is sound, with one trap. A redesign that changes page addresses without redirects can wipe out rankings the old site spent years earning, and in a market this size they take months to win back. If a new site is on your list, plan the SEO with it rather than after it. Our website design work is set up that way: the page structure, the redirects and the local pages are settled before anything goes live.
Health care, construction and retail: three ways Houston searches
In the Census Bureau's American Community Survey for 2019-2023, the city of Houston had 1,136,791 employed residents. The largest share, 11.6 percent, worked in health care and social assistance, followed by construction at 11.0 percent and retail at 10.1 percent. Census estimates put the 2024 population at 2,390,125, up 3.9 percent since 2020.
Those three industries search in different ways.
- Health care: clinics, dental offices and therapy practices compete in the map pack and on reviews, and patients type a symptom or specialty as often as a practice name. Specialists near the Texas Medical Center draw patients from far outside the city who search by condition and doctor, not by neighborhood, so their pages need depth on what they treat more than a list of ZIP codes.
- Construction: there are two audiences. Homeowners type the job and their part of town, something like "slab leak repair Meyerland". General contractors and property managers look for subcontractors by trade, capacity and licensing. One site can serve both, but not with the same page.
- Retail: independent shops compete with national chains for "near me" searches, where a Business Profile with current hours, products and photos does more than a blog post.
Engineering and energy-services firms, many of them along I-10 west in the Energy Corridor, sit outside all three. Their buyers search by capability and credentials, so service pages, project write-ups and links carry them, not the map pack.
The same survey found only 11.7 percent of Houston workers worked from home. Most of the city searches on a phone, between jobs or in traffic, so a page that loads quickly on a phone and puts the service area and the call button near the top earns more here than in a city where a quarter of the workforce sits at a home desk.
A city with no single center
Houston is mostly in Harris County, with parts of the city in Fort Bend and Montgomery counties. Inside the city limits are places people search under their own names, such as Kingwood in the northeast and Clear Lake near NASA's Johnson Space Center. The 610 Loop, Beltway 8 and the Grand Parkway mark rings of suburbs that each behave like a separate town in search.
Google's map results lean heavily on the distance between the searcher and the business. A Business Profile in Montrose rarely shows for someone searching from Katy or Cypress, however good it is. So the plan for most Houston businesses has two halves:
- The Business Profile works the few miles around your real address: the right primary category, every service, real photos, a steady flow of reviews and clean citations.
- Pages carry the suburbs further out, in the regular results. A contractor in Bellaire who also works in Pearland and Missouri City needs a page for each that shows jobs done there. A company on the north side might cover Spring, Humble and The Woodlands; one on the east side, Pasadena and the plants along the Ship Channel.
Pages like that work at scale only when each one is about its place. From February to July 2025, city pages built at scale took a California window tinting company to page one across dozens of city searches, and its weekly leads went from 3 to 5 to over 280. In Houston the same rule applies: a suburb page that swaps in a new name and nothing else tends to be filtered out, so each one needs jobs, photos or details from that suburb.

Houston questions
Can a business inside the 610 Loop show up in the map pack for Katy or Cypress searches?
Rarely. Google weighs the distance between the searcher and the business address heavily in map results, and Katy and Cypress are a long drive from the Loop with plenty of closer competitors. You can still reach those customers through the regular results with a page for each suburb you really serve, backed by jobs there. A second map presence comes only with a second staffed location.
Should I rebuild my website before starting SEO in Houston?
Only if the current site is holding you back, for example if it is slow on a phone, hard to update or missing pages for your main services. If you do rebuild, plan the SEO at the same time: keep or redirect every old address that ranks, and decide the service and suburb pages before launch. Rebuilding first and fixing SEO later often costs the rankings the old site had.
Do you have staff in Houston?
No. We work with Houston businesses remotely, over email, phone and video calls, and we do not claim a local office or team. The work does not need one: Business Profile edits, citations, pages and links are all done online. Each monthly report lists every live link, the page on your site it targets and the anchor text used, so you can check the work yourself.
How does a Houston medical or dental practice get into the map pack?
Start with the Business Profile: the most specific primary category, every treatment listed as a service, real photos of the office, accurate hours, and review requests sent to every patient rather than only the ones you expect to be happy, since selective asking breaks Google's rules. Then make the practice name, address and phone match across the main directories, and give each treatment its own page.
